At the end of the summer, one of my elementary students asked me if he could learn the songs of some of the branches of the U.S. Military. He’s one of those kids who is ALL boy, and the right “boy” song goes a long way in motivating him! I thought it was a great idea, so went about finding music to give him at his first fall lesson. After a quick search, I didn’t find any arrangements at his level, but did discover that the Army and Marine hymns are public domain, so decided to write them out for him. They both play easily in 5-finger positions:
My student was REALLY excited to get started when I gave him one of these last week, and I’m sure that as soon as he plays them at a group lesson, I’m going to have some other elementary guys anxious to learn these. If any of you have elementary-level students who enjoy patriotic music (or need some easy elementary “guy” songs), both songs are available for download on my studio site.
